The Internship Opportunity: Public Affairs
The Port of Virginia – Virginia Port Authority is seeking a Public Affairs Intern that will help develop resources to further Public Affairs' engagement throughout the Commonwealth for the upcoming year and help craft critical resources to plot areas for future supply chain links.
This specifically includes further research of comprehensive use plans and identifying areas for current or future development that can be sorted locally and regionally to be shared with our port centric partners.
They will attend local, state, and regional functions and engage with elected officials, key stakeholders, and port partners throughout the internship.
They will develop a knowledge base regarding the supply chain including the operation on terminal and impact outside the gates.
Specifically, they will help support the intersection of transportation and public affairs as it relates to our port partner.
The Port of Virginia's 8 Week Summer Internship Program runs from June 3, 2024 - July 26, 2024, and is designed to develop, teach, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students as they explore career opportunities within the maritime industry.
Students will be given the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to hands on project focused tasks in various departments throughout The Port of Virginia.
What You’ll Do: Outcomes & Experience
Learn about specific processes and engagement at the state and local level.
Gain an understanding of the supply chain and the port’s impact across the Commonwealth.
Help develop resources from research, talking points, and presentations to then be utilized for specific audiences.
Have the opportunity to learn more about the supply chain through port partners and stakeholders through tours and site visits, as well as meeting with elected officials and learn from their experience and how they balance a host of needs and priorities.
Who You Are: Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled and in an accredited program or graduate program (having completed freshman / first year) during the time of the program.
Must be available to work full time (40 hours per week) from June 3, 2024 – July 26, 2024.
