Location: Hampton Roads Area Command – Norfolk, VA Position Type: Regular, Full-Time Pay Range: $84,156.

77 About this opportunity: Under the general direction of the Hampton Roads Area Commander and Executive Director, the Director of Development plans, develops, leads and directs the Development Department for the Hampton Roads Area Command operations which includes: Donor Services and Engagement, Marketing & Public Relations, Major Gifts (individuals, corporations and foundations), Volunteers, Special Events and Fundraising; Directs the selection, training, and supervision of all staff responsible for performing the daily operational duties of the Development Department; Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates a variety of resource development strategies; Leads, performs and ensures the highest level of quality in ongoing donor solicitation and recognition programs; and Monitors to ensure that the financial resources for facilities and programs are available to meet the growing need of the people that The Salvation Army serves.
Key responsibilities: • Leads and directs all donor services functions for the Hampton Roads Area Command.
• Oversees and monitors donor solicitation and recognition programs to ensure that the financial resources for facilities and programs are available to meet the growing need of the citizens that The Salvation Army serves.
• Administers, leads, plans, and supervises all areas of the Development Department, which results in fiscal stability, programmatic accountability and enhancement of the department and its areas of operations which include: donor services, marketing and public relations, volunteers, special events and fundraising from individuals, corporations and foundations.
• Directs all marketing and public relations functions for the Hampton Roads Area Command; supervises the Marketing and Public Relations Manager to ensure that every point of contact (Advisory Board Members, donors, corporate partners, community leaders, volunteers, clients, disaster victims, etc.
) is aware of The Salvation Army’s mission and its services; and develops and directs new marketing and public relations strategies to promote awareness and enhance financial support.
What we are looking for in you: • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or a related field; • Ten years experience in a comprehensive development program with progressively responsible experience and demonstrated success in major gifts fundraising; • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Certifications/Licenses: Valid Driver’s License, NSFRE Certification Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: • Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.
).
Duties are usually performed seated.
Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
• Work may be performed in a normal office environment within a climate-controlled structure.
There is little, or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, and dirt.
