Posting Details Posting Details Working Title Student & Alumni Programs Specialist Position Number 00994A Department CAREER DEVELOPMENT SERVICES Location Norfolk, VA Type of Position Classified Type of Job Full Time EEO Category E Paraprofessionals Job Description This position is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and managing programs and services directed at engaging students through individual and group activities to focus on career aspirations for professional and academic careers.
This position will also provide support for recruitment, advising, and consulting with prospective and current student and employer contacts for ODU Career Development Services events, programs, and services.
The individual in this position will also support our online students, and drop-in services utilizing maximum campus and community resources and opportunities.
Type of Recruitment Knowledge, skills and abilities Basic working knowledge and ability to apply accepted career development practices, policies, theories, and procedures.
Working knowledge of personal computers and network environments; word processing, spreadsheets, database software, electronic mail, internet use, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and other and presentation graphics demonstrated by the ability to produce documents, track data and create reports.
Strong written and oral communication skills and effective presentation skills to large and small groups.
Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and direct staff.
Strong organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet assigned deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and within small groups.
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver career related information as well as teach and train.

Bachelor’s degree in education, human resources, business, human services, a related field of study, or equivalent relevant experience.
Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and in a team environment.
Some experience in a support role to include in a student-focused environment.
Demonstrated skills in service orientation, organization, active listening, and critical thinking.
