, a regional commercial real estate firm seeks a Payroll Specialist to join our Corporate Accounting Team of professionals in Virginia Beach.

The Payroll Specialist is responsible managing the payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of employee compensation and benefits.
This role involves a range of financial and administrative tasks related to payroll, tax compliance, and record-keeping.
Payroll Processing:
* Collect and verify employee time records, hours worked, and any relevant data for accurate payroll processing for semi-monthly payroll for 2 multi state companies in Paylocity.
* Calculate and process payroll, including regular salaries, overtime, commission, bonuses, and other compensation, while ensuring compliance with company policies and legal regulations.
* Verify accuracy of payroll general ledger posting and payroll accounting.
* Evaluate and improve payroll processes for increased accuracy and efficiency.
Tax, Compliance and Auditing:
* Ensure accurate calculation and withholding of payroll taxes, including federal, state, and local income taxes, Social Security, and Medicare.
* Prepare and submit tax reports, including Form 941, W-2s, 1099s and other required documents to relevant government agencies.
* Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as company policies and procedures.
* Collaborate with internal and external auditors during payroll audits.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
* Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee data, tax withholdings, and earnings history.
* Track and code employee reimbursements.
System and Software Utilization:
* Utilize payroll software and systems for processing, reporting, and record-keeping.
* Stay updated on payroll software upgrades and industry best practices.
Problem Resolution:
* Address and resolve payroll-related issues and discrepancies promptly.
* Work with employees to correct any payroll errors and discrepancies.
Communication:
* Communicate with employees regarding payroll-related matters, including paychecks, deductions, and tax-related questions.
* Collaborate with HR and finance teams to ensure smooth payroll operations.
Assist Controller with special projects as needed.
*Physical and Environmental Conditions*
Ability to move about an office or building and sit for long periods of time.
*Required Qualifications*
*MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:*
* Associate’s degree in Accounting.
Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred.
* 2 years proven experience in payroll processing and accounting, with knowledge of tax regulations and laws.
* Proficiency in using payroll software and Microsoft Excel.
* Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
* Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
