A Multimedia Artist and Animator plays a vital role in the visual aspects of various industries.
Their work contributes to the overall aesthetic and functionality of projects ranging from video games to architectural visualization.
The incumbent will be assigned to the Virginia Digital Maritime Center (VDMC) at ODU’s Office of Enterprise Research & Innovation and be responsible for designing maritime-themed multimedia project models by utilizing various software applications and computer tools to represent high-quality digital content aimed at enhancing learning and training systems visualizations.
The role will work closely with various design and working teams to evaluate ideas, identify feasibility scope within projects, and work within agile development systems.
The incumbent will support the VDMC mission by coordinating with project teams, have excellent technical and critical thinking skills to understand product/deliverable specifications, and recommend solutions through graphics analyses.
Job Responsibilities:
Create detailed and accurate 3D models based on project requirements, including characters, objects, environments, and props.
Apply textures and materials to 3D models to enhance realism and visual appeal.
Rig models with skeletons or armatures for animation purposes and create animations if required.
Work in close collaboration with other artists, designers, curriculum team, and partners in asset and library documentation, utilize agile project management best practices, and ensure the seamless integration of 3D assets into deliverables and overall projects.
Coordinate different project requirements, artistic styles, and project timelines.
Identify and solve technical and artistic challenges related to 3D modeling and animation.
Keep up with current industry trends, tools, and technologies to continually improve/hone skills.

Education and/or training: A bachelor’s degree in modeling and simulation, game design, or combination of education and experience.
Level and type of experience: Entry level with demonstrated experience through a portfolio showcasing past projects and achievements.
Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Proficiency in 3D modeling of environments, assets, and objects
Proficiency of Texturing: Knowledge of texturing tools and techniques, including UV mapping and applying materials.
Proficiency in Animation Skills: Basic understanding of rigging and animation principles.
Attention to Detail: Ability to create highly detailed and accurate models.
Creativity: Strong artistic and creative skills to bring ideas to life.
Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and find creative solutions to technical challenges.
Communication: Effective communication skills to collaborate with other team members.
