Superintendent I - Ship Repair
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking Superintendent to support day shift operations of the Temporary Services department in our Shipyard in Norfolk, VA.
Job Description: Responsible for all aspects of the job - budget, schedule, and quality for the projects assigned.
Promotes a safe work environment and demonstrates this by having a well-kept jobsite and safe practices are being displayed.
Proactively predicts and solves systemic safety issues throughout the yard.
Responsible for the oversight of multiple complex projects.
Identifies and manages the critical path of projects.
Establish budgets and approve or create schedules for the project.
Approve all time charges and material expenditures, unless they specifically delegate these duties to the assigned Supervisors.
Work closely with his assigned Shipyard Supervisors and ensure that they understand their areas of responsibility and that they spend 75-80% of their time on the “deck plates.
” Physical progress is accomplished each week and cost projections reviewed for any corrective action required.
Review and redistribute the “estimate” in order to establish craft budgets.
Verify that all subcontract purchase order values are kept current and that increases and decreases are processed quickly so that job cost can be determined.
Compare labor expenditures against the spending plan and report any variation and explain them.
Approve all requests for material and rental equipment.
Responsible for schedule adherence.
Represent the company in discussions with the customer regarding schedule and support the contract group in developing support for “schedule impact” on change orders when warranted.
Develop and implement any recovery schedule with concurrence from Project Team and Contract Manager.
Responsible for collection of physical progress each week for their jobs Review, edit & approve Test and Inspection Plans, Required Reports List.
Execute & manage Test & Inspection Plans.
Draft and submit accurate, clear & concise reports as required.
Lead multiple teams of superintendents across multiple projects.
Provide input into change order pricing and schedule impacts.
Actively participate in contract negotiations as required.
Track and Forecast Project Costs accurately.
Work closely with the representatives from various classification societies and governing agencies Work independently to complete responsibilities.
Qualifications: Must have at least eight years of industry (Ship Repair and/or Marine) experience in a Superintendent role and at least 6 years of supervisory experience.
Must have strong communication skills both written and oral with the ability to act as a spokesperson.
Must have strong Experience with Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project Must have strong planning and project management skills.
Must have ability to perform as a PM if required.
Must be improvement and achievement orientated.
Must be able to write detailed required reports that are satisfactory with little to no edits from other team members on a consistent basis.
Must be able to produce a detailed integrated project schedule for complex projects.
Must be able to create or identify the Critical Path(s) of a project and clearly communicate it.
Must have proven and successful experience with both Commercial and Government Contracts or very strong experience in one of the two.
Must have thorough knowledge of the industry’s processes.
Must have the ability to work successfully and manage all industry tasks by themselves.
Must understand Costs and Pricing.
Must be able to consistently produce an accurate Estimated Cost at Completion and Gross Profit Margin.
Must have regular, reliable attendance.
Desired Qualifications: Eligibility to obtain a DBIDS badge is preferred.
Travel Requirements: Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes.
The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships.
Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
May ride ships at sea for extended periods Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear.
Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
Work in extreme temperatures and conditions.
At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation Frequent use of respirator.
Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
