Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist to support the Cardiac Surgical ICU
Full Time Rotating Shift
The Clinical Nurse Specialist demonstrates advanced and specialized clinical knowledge and to facilitate the provision of patient/family-focused care to promote health and/or well-being improve quality of life; drive practice changes throughout the organization and ensure use of evidence-based care to improve patient outcomes.
This individual provides expertise and support either directly or indirectly by influencing patients/families, nurses/nursing practice, and organization/systems through direct care, leadership, coaching, research, ethical decision making, collaboration, and consultation.
Experience/Education: Master’s degree required.
2 years + of Nursing experience, Experience with Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and Mechanical Circulatory Support (Impella/ECMO/LVAD) required.
Experience with transplant preferred.
RN license compact/multi state Must be certified in specialty area deemed eligible for CNS as recognized by State Boards of Nursing.
CNS registration with Virginia or North Carolina Board of Nursing required.
BLS Required Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for Intermediate Care and Critical Care.
Unit Description: 20 Bed Cardiac Surgical ICU Nurses handle 1-2 patients on this unit based on acuity level.
Nurses provide service to any patients that have undergone open heart surgeries such as CABG, Valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, TAVR, ablations, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support devices including the Total Artificial Heart and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and various lung surgeries.
Nurses manage critically ill patients that require intensive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, multiple drug infusions, IABP therapy and CRRT.
