About the Position NRHA seeks qualified candidates for two (2) open positions for Building Maintenance Mechanic Aide.
The job holder performs routine maintenance, repairs, and replacements at public housing apartment units and buildings.
The position is assigned to the Young Terrace public housing community located at 816 Whitaker Lane in Norfolk, Virginia.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
Performing routine structural, plumbing, appliance, and electrical maintenance assignments to repair apartment units.
Operating a standard motor vehicle to transport equipment and tools.
Performing routine painting assignments.
Making repairs and replacements to prepare apartment for new tenants.
Performing routine grounds maintenance assignments.
Processing work order documents.
Monitoring work and assuring that the community complies with federal, state, and local housing regulations.
Upholding local public housing community standards.
Assisting in moving furniture, supplies, and other items for transport as needed.
Receiving training to maintain knowledge and skill in apartment repair, including maintaining any required certifications.
Processing standard work documents, such as work orders.
Performing routine care and cleaning of shop equipment.
Maintaining a safe and clean workplace.
About the Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this job will have:
A high school education with a vocational education program in building maintenance.
One to two years of progressively responsible experience in residential building maintenance.
A current and valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Candidates with one or more of the following job-related experience, training, and certifications will be preferred over other candidates for employment:
Vocational training in general maintenance, construction, or mechanics.
NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he/she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.
NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
The hiring pay range for this job classification is $37,440.
