Position Number FP508A Location Norfolk, VA Job Summary This position will serve as an international student advisor for a portion of the F1 student population at Old Dominion University.
This position requires a high level of knowledge of immigration regulations, as well as the ability to serve as one of ten Designated School Officials (DSO) and one of five Alternate Responsible Officers (ARO) for the SEVIS immigration database.
In addition to in-person advising, this position will be responsible for creating, reviewing, and approving federal immigration documents for ensuring maintenance of status.
This position is also responsible for the document issuance, advising, and cultural programming for all J1 Research Scholars.
This position ensures insurance compliance for all F & J visa holders, and serves on ODU’s health insurance committee for contract procurement.
The position will also serve as backup for several other processes, including immigration presentations for students and departments, PCard purchasing, and H1B advising.
Position Type FullTime Type of Recruitment General Public Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in higher education administration, international affairs, intercultural communication, linguistics, public administration, or related field.
Considerable experience working with information management software, such as Banner, Peoplesoft, ISSM or TerraDotta.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to interpret complex policies and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a higher education setting.
Working knowledge of visa regulations for F1 and J1 non-immigrants.
Experience with advising individual students.
Experience with health insurance policy management.
