We are looking for compassionate and professional Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to join our medical team and bridge the gap in healthcare.
We provide primary care, pediatrics, OB/GYN, and behavioral health.
In addition to our five (5) community health centers in Norfolk and Portsmouth, we provide services via our medical and dental mobile unit.
Key responsibilities include: Coordinate the patient flow of the physicians and nursing staff by observing impediments and taking independent action to resolve them; makes referrals from physicians; notifies patients of lab results and explains abnormal results to them; and reviews electronic health records to check for any red flags or backups, takes appropriate corrective action as necessary in accordance with established protocols.
Triages patients, which includes obtaining vital signs; documentation of chief complaints of patients and putting patients in examination rooms; cross trains to assist in other units, Laboratory, Medical Records, OB/GYN, and Pediatrics as well as assisting with orientation of new clinical employees; and dispenses medications and/or administration of vaccinations accurately and as ordered by clinical providers.
Assists with referrals, obtaining lab results, medication refills, pulling chart from medical records, faxing documents/records, reordering supplies as ordered by physicians; and completes annual recertification for OSHA, Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA Compliance, and maintains annual record of all trainings.
Performs administrative support work such as word processing, creating spreadsheets, data entry and retrieval; orders, monitors and distributes program supplies/resources; and other information to ensure accuracy and conformance to established procedures and policies; and counsels patients regarding patient responsibilities and rights; adheres to patient confidentiality guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school for nursing.
Must have a valid State of Virginia nursing license.
LPN candidates should have excellent communication and have the ability to undertake a variety of diverse care tasks.
Must be certified in Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association.
Successful candidates will possess: Required Knowledge Clinical – Must be able to demonstrate basic clinical skill and knowledge in specimen collection, which includes urine collects, cultures from eyes, nose, and throat.
Administers oral and injectable medications.
Cleans and washes wounds if necessary and change dressings.
Administers oxygen, nebulizer and breathing treatment.
Educates patients on peak flow meters.
HIPAA – Knowledge of the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to ensure the privacy and safeguard patient information.
Customer Service — Considerable knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
This includes meeting quality standards for service.
Technology — Knowledge of general office equipment and personal computers to include word processing, spreadsheet, and related software.
Comprehensive knowledge of office systems, practices, procedures, and administration.
Required Skills Computer Skills – Utilizes a personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet, and related software to effectively complete a variety of financial tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy.
Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine.
Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly.
Implements work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.
Interpersonal Relationships – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with clinical staff and all levels of management to include representatives from other departments and organizations.
Required Abilities Communication – Ability to effectively communicate ideas and proposals verbally and in writing, to include the preparation of detailed logs which include numerical information.
Judgment/Decision Making — Evaluates the best method of research and then exercises appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving complex matters.
Considers the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
