Job Description:
The Assistant Director for the Monarch Internship Academy for the Humanities is responsible for advising students interested in internships and co-ops and working with businesses and regional stakeholders to promote work-based learning initiatives specifically for students enrolled in humanities programs.
As Internship Success Advisor, the Assistant Director works closely with Academic Advisors, Faculty, and Student Support Coaches to implement a case management approach in helping students to engage in work-based learning initiatives.
The Assistant Director works with incoming humanities students to introduce them to internship opportunities by teaching in select learning communities and coordinates with other advisors to ensure that students progress towards graduation and career placement.
Specific attention is given to helping students locate possible internships and develop the tools required to succeed in internships.
Two positions available
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree required in Counseling, Public Administration, or Higher Education, or other discipline with the appropriate practical experience.
Experience in career counseling and/or academic advising students.
Knowledge of student development theory and/or career counseling.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral, web).
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to present and promote ideas/concepts to others.
Proficient skill in the use of Microsoft Office and applications.
Demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously and work independently.
Demonstrated ability to proofread with an attention to detail.
Analytical skills and proven results in achieving objectives and goals.
Ability to assess needs, gather/analyze data, and adjust communication/design strategies as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Considerable knowledge of the humanities
Previous work in higher education
Considerable experience in career counseling and/or advising students
Prior career and/or academic advising/counseling experience, preferably in a college or university setting
