St.
Matthew’s Catholic School is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a variety of skill sets to oversee development.
The Development Director is an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a variety of skill sets to create, develop, and manage new and established fundraising events, implement capital and/or major giving campaigns, research and write grants, create and publish the Annual Report, and create programs and events designed to engage and cultivate volunteers and donors to create a sustainable and growing tradition of philanthropic support.
The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic role model who is passionate about sharing the Catholic faith, capable of working collaboratively with businesses, colleagues, and school families, and one who demonstrates a commitment to advance the mission of the school.
Responsibilities and Tasks: The Development Director has overall responsibility for these essential functions that include, but are not limited to: Supervise the Development team.
Conduct meetings to discuss and brainstorm about upcoming events and for debriefs.
Create revenue streams through various means to meet or exceed the goals set forth in the current yearly school budget.
Oversee and implement all major fundraising events under the Development department, which include Eagle Open, Auction & Gala, Carnival, Drive 4UR School, EISTC, Annual Appeal, Year Long fundraisers (Box Tops, Kroger, Harris Teeter, Texas Roadhouse Dine to Donate, Panera Nights, etc.
).
Chair the Auction & Gala.
Manage the school fundraisers and calendar.
Negotiate contracts for goods or services.
Create and distribute summer development mailing.
Set budget goals.
Maintain Donor and Alumni relations.
Budgetary oversight of the department.
Create the yearly Development Plan.
Compile the previous school year's development fundraising reports for the principal’s faculty and staff presentation and Orientation Night presentation sent to families.
Prepare and present department updates for the School Advisory Board.
Research, write, and submit grants.
Help various SMS groups (8th-grade class, Play, SCA, NJHS, etc.
) find ways to raise money to support their group.
Create and send all correspondence for donation and sponsorship requests.
Create and send all thank you letters to sponsors and donors.
Maintain the alumni list.
Create Annual Report.
Christmas Card mailing.
Ensure brand consistency in the use of the logo and school colors.
Participate in the Hampton Roads Catholic Schools Marketing Consortium.
Represent the school at development related meetings and events.
Capital campaign development and implementation as needed.
Support school and parish groups and events that promote our Catholic community internally and to the surrounding community.
Maintain a strict level of confidentiality on all matters relating to school business and work within the established school operating procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Support fully the mission statement and philosophy of learning at St.
Matthew’s School.
Adhere to stipulations set forth in the signed appointment letter.
Abide by the policies set forth in the Diocesan personnel handbook and St.
Matthew’s School Faculty/Staff handbook.
Maintain a complete, current personnel file with both the Diocese of Richmond and St.
Matthew’s School.
Stay up to date on diocesan, parish, and school policies and procedures Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Non-Profit Administration, or related field or have significant experience in non-profit development, acquiring major gifts, annual/planned giving, event management, and public relations.
Experience in a non-profit education environment preferred.
Strong organizational, administration, interpersonal communication skills, detail and “big picture” oriented.
Able to handle multiple projects/priorities.
Skill in preparing written reports and proposals.
Solid writing, editing, and presentation ability.
Professional demeanor, flexibility, and ability to respond to multiple demands.
Must be flexible regarding work schedule (nights and/or weekends) and location to accomplish the goals of the Development department.
Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Experience with Google Docs and Donor database management experience is preferred.
Customer Service Oriented.
Working Conditions: Full time in the Development Office during the school year, except for events, which require more hours, including nights and some weekends.
Occasional travel to events or meetings outside of school.
Summer hours (Last Day of School through staff returning) are reduced (20 hrs/wk) Physical Demands: Be able to lift 50 lbs.
and can perform tasks that include bending, lifting, and climbing.
Regularly required to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, reach, bend, lift, listen, talk, and perform computer keyboarding.
