The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a part-time Child Care Aide for the Hampton Roads Area Command Ray & Joan Kroc Community Center, located in Norfolk, Virginia.
About this opportunity: Under the general supervision of the Assistant Program Director, the Child Care Aide will assist in providing childcare services for children, including personal care, hygiene, learning and development activities, and specialized programs; maintain cleanliness and orderliness of childcare property.
Key responsibilities: • Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
• Assists Child Care Workers in preparing and conducting lesson plans; monitors classroom activities in the absence of the Child Care Worker.
• Supervises and monitors children during recreational activities; observes, monitors, and supervises children on the playground.
• Prepares and serves children snacks and meals; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food; provides a positive, relaxed atmosphere during children's mealtime, encouraging conversation.
• Washes childrens' hands and faces after morning play activities, before lunch, and again in late afternoon before parents pick up children or before dinner, whichever comes first.
• Monitors and ensures the personal hygiene of the children, including toilet assistance, diapering, etc.
; adheres to sanitary procedures including but not limited to labeling of cots, cribs, and cubbies and storing bedding and clothing in the proper manner.
• Exhibits control of the children and, when needed, displays proper discipline techniques.
• Maintains the classroom materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any laundry, money, and supplies necessary for classroom programs.
• Cleans the kitchen, classrooms, high chairs, tables, floors, toys, cribs, etc.
in accordance with established sanitary standards.
• Reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.
• Follows guidelines provided on Standards of Performance.
What we are looking for in you: • High school diploma or G.

required, • Six months experience providing adult supervision to children preferred, • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities • Valid State Driver's License • C.

and First Aid Certification Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to observe children and ensure their safety.
Ability to lift, hold, and carry toddlers on a regular basis.
Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
