Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral Norfolk, Virginia *Bookkeeper Job Description* *Job Title:* Bookkeeper *Job Summary:* Provides a variety of bookkeeping and accounting functions including payroll for staff.
*Reports To:* Parish Council Treasurer *Qualifications:* * College or equivalent training in bookkeeping * Minimum 3 years bookkeeping and payroll experience * Knowledge in using Quick Books and Excel are essential * Willingness to learn Parish Data System * Have transportation and capable of making Bank deposits as necessary * Acceptable criminal background check *Key Duties and Responsibilities:* * Record parishioner contributions into the Parish Data System.
Reconcile with QuickBooks to maintain accuracy.
* Print Statements as required.
* Prepare Payroll as required.
* Review employee and employer Payroll expenses and ensure that FICA, Medicare, SIT & FIT have been properly calculated.
* Prepare quarterly Form 941 and monthly remittal reports required by Virginia.
* Prepare Forms W-2 and 1099.
Prepare all necessary year-end transmittal reports.
* Record and reconcile all credit card receipts.
* Enter all invoices received by the Cathedral into the appropriate Accounts Payable system.
* Print checks as required, securing the review and signatures of the appropriate Parish Council officers.
* Maintain and balance the check register.
* Mail payments as required.
* Enter all Bank deposits, in a timely fashion, into QuickBooks for the appropriate accounts; Operating, Building Fund, Festival, or other accounts as directed.
* Merge Accounts Payable and Payroll to the General Ledger.
* Prepare, in a timely fashion, monthly reconciliations for all Bank Accounts and Brokerage Accounts.
* Prepare monthly financial statements for the Parish Council.
* Prepare all reports as required by the Presiding Priest, Parish Council and/or Ministry Directors.
* Maintain and execute a proper back-up procedure for all computer-based software and data.
* Other duties as required to assist in the smooth operation of the Cathedral office.
*Knowledge, skills and performance responsibilities:* * Non-profit experience a plus.
* Considerable knowledge of bookkeeping principles and methods and their applications.
* Considerable knowledge of computers and skill in the use of copy machines and other standard office machines.
* Ability to work independently and carry out assignments with little or no supervision.
* Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
* Ability to deal effectively and courteously with Cathedral Parishioners’.
* Observes assigned work hours.
* Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.
*Additional Information:* * Position is an hourly position with no benefits.
* Position is part-time.
